Born in Hamilton, raised in Chicago and now based in Toronto, Canada, Rita is a Montreal Jazz Festival "Prix de Jazz" Nominee (for her work on "The Birth of Sprawl").

Her groundbreaking and original CD "The Birth of Sprawl" put Rita on the map. Critics hailed her as "Electrifying...extraordinarily compelling" and one of the most interesting singers of the contemporary era

Now di Ghent's back with her sophomore original outing: "Sprawl Indigo", featuring more of her stunning, poetic and rapier observations of inner-city life. This new outing also represents a post-humous collaboration with her late guitarist brother, Mark Ghent. Samples of Mark's playing appear as soundscapes, riffs and solo sections on the new album.

Sprawl Indigo is co-produced by one of Canada's deepest bass players, Ian de Sousa and engineered by the legendary Nick Blagona (Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett, Le Double Six, etc.)
