SoZo Sounds are musicians with the desire to create a unique blend of music that brings an atmosphere that lives up to the band’s name - wholeness and completeness through music. Our goal is to enjoy life and people through the appreciation of jazz and blends with other styles to compile SoZo Sounds. We will always strive to bring unique expressions to the world of music as we satisfy the parts of the soul thirsting for a jazz blend. You’ll hear influences of R&B, rock, funk, gospel and world styles (African, Spanish and Celtic) weaved throughout the melodies and improvisations. Whether in the studio or at a live venue, we hope to bring you a complete feeling while listening to the gifts at hand. Sozo Sounds is where Jazz meets wholeness.
Musicians:
Errick Davis – keyboards, bass, drums and other instruments, production
Errrick has been playing the keyboard since he was 13 though he was a self-proclaimed drummer until the keyboard showed up one Christmas. His is upbringing was filled with different genres of musical flavors due to his father's jazz and rock along with his mother's oldies and gospel music. The world of music became a permanent part of him when he joined his high school's gospel choir, (Dobbins Mass Choir), of 150+ participants. This along with musicians that he has bonded with over the years has allowed him to experience a great variety of styles that have helped to shape the expressions of music he produces. Errick has had the opportunity to produce and perform on other jazz, seasonal and Christian projects over the years. Errick has been happily married for over 14 years to his lovely wife Maravi and has two amazing children, Ysa and Alan.
Ron Connolly – soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones, Irish whistles, clarinet and flute.
Ron is so thankful for his grandfather, who helped to instill the family tradition of music in his life from age 10, when he bought Ron his first clarinet. Ron had the blessing of growing up around great older musicians who loved to jam together, playing music that was formative to the jazz movement, such as sing-alongs, Rhythm & Blues, Big Band, Show tunes, all of which are highlighted as part of a Philadelphia musical tradition, the String Bands. Ron got his first tenor saxophone when he was 13, which quickly became his favorite instrument. He was selected to regional and state honors bands and talent competitions, and would later receive a Jazz performance scholarship while studying chemical engineering at Drexel University. Ron has participated on a number of recording projects, including live Christian worship recordings, Alternative Rock, and Jazz Christmas projects. Ron is married to an amazing wife of 18 years, Irene and has a wonderful son, Nate.
