Olivette is the moniker adopted by husband and wife worship leaders Matt and Cameron Hammon. Having both produced solo projects (Cameron Dezen, Mary's Daughter [2000], Love + Rescue [2005]; Matt Hammon, Pieces of a Human Being [2003]), the two decided to start fresh with the songs they'd co written- and start a band. "Olivette" is taken from Mt Olivet, or the Mount of Olives, the place where Jesus spoke to the people. For the couple it symbolizes not only a platform from which to speak about God, but a place of refuge- Mt Olivet was also home to Jesus during his itinerant ministry years. "Olivette" is a musical homecoming for the couple who are equal creative and spiritual contributors to the new material.
Matt and Cameron met after high school, on the front lawn of a talented Austin playwright. Cameron fell in love with Matt at first sight and stalked him for several years until he noticed her. The two went back and forth between Houston, New York and Nashville - between break ups and makeup's- until they got married in 2002, just over a year after Cameron became a Christian and was baptized in a lightning storm on Coney Island. The couple writes, records, and produces beautiful, intelligent music about and for God. They hope you'll agree.
