Mike Darnell is a Houston singer/songwriter and describes his music as “the flues”, an amalgamation of folk and blues. His lyrics are clever and melodies catchy. A native Texan, his compositions include historical ballads that capture snapshots of Texas and American history. On the blues side, Mike plays predominantly fingerstyle often incorporating a percussive attack into the sound.
“The Promised Land”, his third solo project, was recorded and produced at Songbrush Sound in Tomball, Texas and engineered by Lloyd Daniel. Mike brings in help from some of his favorite Houston musicians including Outbound Music artists, Smythe and Taylor and his band mates from Big Lizard Boys, Bill Aspinwall and Mike Crippen.
Mike is a member of HAAM (Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians) and currently serving as president of The Houston Songwriters Association. He received the organization’s “Songwriter of the Year” award in 2007.
