 Krystale, a Montreal native with dominican roots, is a 20 year-old singer/songwritter with a love for music that is beyond measure that has been fueled since her early childhood by her musical parents. She is a graduate of the renowned Vanier College music program in Professional Music and Song Techniques with a specialization in jazz composition, where she was taught by an 11 time Grammy nominee Christopher Smith. Her FACTOR funded self-titled debut album, was released in November 2010. It was produced by Tino Izzo whose credits include Celine Dion and Bobby Bazini, is written through a teenage perspective in which she often questions whether time has actually made her wiser and the values of modern society. Stylistically, it is a pop/rock album with some elements of R&B and folk. Her vocal texture is raspy and her range is wide. She has the ability to sing in French and Spanish as well as in English It doesn't take much for her to get inspired and pick up her acoustic guitar or sit at the keyboard to create music. Her hopes are that, for her next album, she will be able to arrange it entirely on her own and create a new, more jazz infused sound. Also, she hopes to collaborate with musicians from all over the world and write an album in Spanish. Influences Krystale’s influences include Fiona Apple, St. Vincent, Billie Holiday, Anita O’Day, Jeff Buckley and Radiohead. She is also heavily inspired by Spanish gypsy music and modern jazz. Most recently, Krystale performed at Canada’s Walk of Fame at the Yonge & Dundas Square in Toronto. She has also performed for Bois-des-Filion’s St-Jean celebration in 2009 as an opening act for the prolific Canadian artist Michel Pagliaro, writer of top 40 hit “Rainshowers”, to a crowd of 5,000 people and appeared numerous times on CTV’s Telethon of Stars. Presently, she is working on new material and translating of a few of her songs to french and to spanish. |
