People young and old love our music. We've been told several times from "old timers" that you just don't hear live music like this anymore, especially from such young musicians.
Most of our influences come from the heart, our family, and how we were raised. Musical influences include Ralph Stanley, Johnny Cash, Ryan Adams, Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, Split Lip Rayfield, Tom Waits.
Getting the band started was easy. Nathan Miller and Adam Cox met while at a mutual friend's birthday party, that friend being Mark Landry. They all got together, found out they each played musical instruments, and started the band. That was in August 2007. Starting in October 2007, the three met every Tuesday night at a local bar in Fayetteville, Arkansas, called Maxine's Tap Room, figured out they needed a fiddle player and invited Richard Hartrick to play with them.
Since then Cletus Got Shot has played numerous gigs...Fayetteville, Eureka Springs, Ft. Smith and Little Rock, Arkansas; Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Kansas City, Joplin, Springfield and Neosho, Missouri; Lawrence, Kansas. Scheduled performer for Mulberry Mountain Harvest Festival, Ozark, Arkansas. Playing on the Fayetteville Square during Farmer's Market is one of the band's favorites. The band has opened for Todd Snider, Split Lip Rayfield. Joint shows with Big Smith & Charliehorse, and Those Darlins, was a performer for the MAD HOPE FOR POSITIVE CHANGE benefit concert for Natural Disaster victims, and relief band for in-between sets for Elephant Revival and My Tea Kind.
2009 Northwest Arkansas Music Awards winner for Roots/Americana/Country catagory. Also 2009 nominees for Best New Band and Band of the Year.
One of the most memorial times is driving home from Ft. Smith one morning around 3:30 in a 1986 Ford Econoline van we bought for $400. Nathan's driving, Adam's riding shotgun, front windows open, the rest of the crew is three quarters of the way asleep in the back. Adam's asking Nathan, "so what's your worst fear?" As if on cue, a bat hits the rear-view mirror, slaps Nathan on the side of the head and lands in his lap. Adam screams , "what the hell was that?!" Nathan, hand still on the steering wheel at 70 mph, calmly picks up the bat, looks at it, throws it out the window and yells "it's a freakin' BAT !!"
