It all began when Austin, TX based guitarist/singer/songwriter Alex Weeden decided to go on his own. While the experience of playing guitar for other bands was great, not performing songs that he had written was completely unfulfilling.
Then along came Nina Singh and Mark Addison, co-founders of the highly praised bands, The Borrowers and later Kitty Gordon. Besides playing in these bands, Addison and Singh were recording, producing and more often than not performing on other albums such as:
Ian Moore's - And All The Colors & Got the Green Grass;
Dewato's - Demonstration;
Jeff Klein's - You'll Never Get to Heaven If You Break My Heart; and
Will Sexton's - Scenes From Nowhere.
After hearing these sounds, Alex then knew where to make his debut record. Six months later, following a significant amount of hard work by Alex, Nina, and Mark, the 10-song compilation WEEdEN - ORANGE WHIP? (Hedgehog Records) was released to critical accolades.
It was now time for a live band.
Alex put a group together consisting of the powerful and excellently metered drummer Bryan Breaux, new Austinite and undiscovered bass player, Sam Arnold, and multi-instrumentalist and talented musician Chris Kline on organ, guitar, vocals, etc., who had also performed on the album, Orange Whip?
The outcome is that the band sounds just like the record. No gimmicks, just pop/ rock with a slight roots-rock twist. Alex states to someone who hasn't heard Orange Whip? or seen WEEdEN live, "We're like what you might hear if Tom Petty performed with Crazy Horse with Paul McCartney conducting."
The album is getting great reviews and the band is frequently playing live gigs to support it.
