After several years on the road with various artist, Thomas moved back to his hometown of Houston. He is currently bassist with some of Houston's finest jazz artists including Carol Morgan, Larry Slezak, Gary Norian and Mike Nase.
After being exposed to the great bassist/improviser, Peter Kowald, his desire to explore improvised/free music began. Along with collaborations with local free players, John E dward Ross, Seth Paynter, Richard Cholakian, Robert Boston and solo playing he is constantly searching and expanding the bass for new levels of self-expression. His first CD, Doublebass, is a compilation of a six-month solo engagement at Cafe Artiste in Houston. He is currently recording his second album and planning a tour to support his first.
He has performed with such jazz greats as, Tim Hagens, Milt Jackson, Monty Alexander, Mark Elf and Ernie Watts. Although "traditional jazz" is a major part of his career, he feels drawn to more limitless possibilities of "free" or "experimental" playing.
Groups that have assisted in his exploration are Cyberglass, Rosta, Column "F" and Render. Fueled by the inspiration of avante-garde pioneers such as Peter Kowald, Evan Parker, William Parker, Matthew Shipp and John Zorn, Thomas will continue growing as a musician, artist, and soloist.
