Twenty-one dog years ago (unless you count Junior High Choir, and who wants to count that high?), Bob Oldreive and April Rapier started playing music together. Bob has a musical pedigree the size of the Big Bend, and April sang demos coast to coast and elsewhere for many moons. They formed a band called Sugar Bayou with Joe Lindley, Andy Moritz and Robbie Parrish. Adam Cutts (voted "Texas' Favorite Fiddler" two years running) and Shannon Cutts (exquisite mandolin) performed with them more often than not, to everyone's great delight. Flash forward to July, 2005, and Sugar Bayou remains much the same, despite recent transitions. Bob and April are still at the core, with Andy, Adam, Shannon and Robbie joining as often as other commitments allow. They're writing like crazy and are hard at work on their second as-yet unnamed CD (April likes the sound of "Whatever She WantsS"), following the amazing success of their first, "Nowhere But Gone," produced by Robbie Parrish. They write and play eclectic acoustic music-joyful, complex, ethereal vocals and instruments infused with folk, swingy bluesy jazz, Celtic, bluegrass, Cajun & South American traditions (& a touch of rockin' country). Hard to describe, easy to listen to
