Sonia’s music has captured listeners around the world with her “next gen” vibe. One might describe her as “a Jesus Chick with attitude”. Full of spunk and ready to rock, Sonia is making noise in the independent music scene and has turned a few heads in the industry by bringing her message to hundreds of thousands all over the globe who are eager to know more about her Savior through music that captivates pop culture. Her songs are catching on and have developed a grassroots following in many independent circles. In February 2002, "You Are My Life" was awarded by the Gospel Music Association as “CCM Song of 2002” at the Nashville Regional AGMA Conference which was hosted by Margaret Becker. Because of overwhelming response, Sonia independently released an EP project titled “Passion Of My Soul” in May 2002. Her songs are charting not only on internet radio sites and webzine voter charts, but internationally on Christian radio airwaves in all of Europe, Peru, Holland and Switzerland for starters, hitting the #1 spot many times as the only independent artist among the top 30 signed charting artists. "Do it For You" raced up the Peru Christian radio airwaves in May 2003 and held the #1 spot for 9 consecutive weeks which has not yet been broken by any signed or unsigned artist to date. Meanwhile , "You Are My Life" broke the European Christian radio charts on UCB Europe's #4 position. “You Are My Life” also hit #1 on Mp3.com’s Christian Pop Charts, and finished the year out as the highest ranking song on the Pop charts in the Christian Pop or Rock genres in just one month after being pre-released in 2001. "Breathe” hit the top 20 on Mp3.com’s pop charts in January 2003 landing at #13 on the Pop charts, #1 on the Christian Pop Charts, #1 on Artist Launch and #1 on The Spirit Radio, and #1 on Mp3.com’s Christian Music Mail station as well as several other internet charting stations and has begun crossover into secular radio. Sonia now receives radio play on stations all over the globe and is one of the most requested independent artists, bringing her into top ten charts in over 10 countries and counting. Sonia is already planning a new full CD release for 2003. Record deal or not, Sonia’s original tunes are speaking the language of a new generation.
Sonia’s powerhouse vocals and original songs are packed with passion and worshipful overtones. With vocal influences reminiscent of No Doubt’s Gwen Staffani, Alanis Morrisette, 4 Non Blondes, Avril Lavigne and in the musical vibe of Foo Fighters/Audio Adrenaline/Switchfoot in chick rock fashion, Sonia’s music has a sound of it’s own as an unmistakable female rock voice that is unique among other Christian artists in the market. With the upcoming CD Release, by taking modern rock into a more cutting edge territory, some might even be inclined to classify this music as modern worship in Top 40 packaging.
To her credit, Sonia has opened for major artists Greg Volz, Rick Cua, been invited to the stage to sing with Phil Keaggy on several occasions, and has sung with Rob Frazier in worship. She has been involved with several Christian and secular projects with industry pros like Scotty Wilbanks of Newsong, (producer of David Glenn’s new “Stand Up” release, Third Day and Phat Chance among many others), Tony Bon Jovi (Power Station Studios, Jimi Hendrix, Bon Jovi), Dajhelon Power Station artists, and lends her background vocals to other artist projects like David Glenn, as well as receives writing invitations from several record companies including Word, Tonos and Aluminum Records, having her original songs recorded by artists on the Butterfly Group label, Christian Records and Aluminum Records label. Sonia has had the honor to work with top of the line producers in the industry including Scotty Wilbanks, Jonathan David Brown and several independent label producers. Sonia’s songwriting stands on it’s own and has had a number of her original songs recorded by other signed artists as well as selected for inclusion to many other projects, compilations and film work including a compilation CD to benefit Exodus International.
Originally from Detroit, Michigan and now residing in Orlando, Florida, Sonia has been singing and recording all her life. Later, Sonia developed a regional following in mid-state New York singing in clubs, for youth groups, and organizations such as Youth For Christ and the Power Surge festival.
