DANCE IN THE WIND…to ¨dance¨through this jouney called ¨life.¨ However, you know what it´s like to have the wind knocked out of you! So treat yourself…lift your spirit with the unseen caresses of …DANCE IN THE WIND!
Lori´ latest CD, ”DANCE IN THE WIND,” as well as all other 8 albums are truly filled with beautiful music and variety, BUT, there is one underlying theme in all of her songs… encouragement! She is more interested in applauding you then herself! The music she records is to inspire you in life, whether to help you “lighten up” as you chuckle from a comical line, to singing something profound to encourage you to be the best you can be. She reminds us about what is most beautiful in life! You’ may find Lori as the most unique, heart endearing artists you have ever heard from the range of lyrics, styles of music, and then top that off in either English or Spanish. She is an adult contemporary artist, but from there she sings pop, country, flamenco, rock, Celtic, gospel, big band, jazz, with songs that have a style of her own!
LORI’S BIO
Lori Young is her father's daughter, a high spirited westerner born and raised with fresh air and fishing in Montana. At seventeen, she asked God for one favor...to please not give her a boring life. From an Eskimo bush village near the Bering Sea to Madrid, Spain (with stops along the way in Maui, Costa Rica, Gran Canaria, and two years of motor home survival in the western USA) life has been anything but boring!
Lori, with the support of her loving husband Tom, recorded her first album in Nashville, Tennessee in 1989. They paid for the album by cutting and splitting firewood! The overwhelming response to her music sent her back to record a second album eleven months later! It was also at this time that Tom and Lori could not ignore the needs of some of the less fortunate in this world. They volunteered for overseas humanitarian service. By now, there were three beautiful additions to their family.
The language barrier, however, was not the only hurdle that Lori would have to jump before recording again. While in the Canary Islands, Lori became seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital various times for respiratory distress,…not good for a singer! For seven years, this one time go-getter struggled most days for daily strength. Would she end up an invalid while still a young woman?
Then one day, she had an odd sensation. It was as though an inner voice was telling her, this lady who could no longer sing, to go for it,… record your first album in Spanish! Since she really thought this was God speaking to her, she began to take the steps forward. Each time it looked impossible to continue on, something would happen to pave the way back open again. Almost three years later, '99 SIGUE AMANDO was completed. (This was also the exact time that doctors began to find solutions that would bring her back into almost normal, daily living once again.) Once the CD was released, Lori was nervous how the music and her Spanish pronunciation would be received. To her surprise, Spaniards thought she sounded like a South American because of a slight accent they picked up and then at least half of the Spanish-speakers who had gotten one of these albums said they were moved to tears, and it wasn´t from just the same one or two songs! Lori then recorded this album in English, KEEP CHOOSIN' TO LOVE was born. Sure as the title, many listeners commented that they could "sense love flowing through her music."
LORI MAKES AN IMPACT IN SPAIN BECAUSE OF BILINGUAL ABILITIES
Lori’s incredible story does not end here because this lady who at one time could no longer sing, nor able to record the songs she had been writing was now in full-production mode, recording albums in both Spanish and English, and each project unique to the other. She went on to record AMÉMONOS COMO LA PRIMAVERA, BUILDER´S OF DREAMS, ALABANZAS EN ESPAÑA, and PRAISES FROM SPAIN. Lori was given her own radio show called, ¨La Mujer de Montana,¨ (The Lady From Montana) and began to be a welcomed guest for various radio and television stations. This American who even as a young adult could not speak Spanish was now doing full concerts and in various flamenco festivals where she was the only foreign artist, performing music she had written that even Spaniards thought was great! In one concert, as she sang, “Flamenco,” there was a flamenco dancer illustrating the song with her movements….BEAUTIFUL!
When the 2004 terrorist Madrid bombings took place (Spain’s 9-11), many casualties were from Lori’s area. Her city’s radio station played a song, SEGUIRÉ QUERIÉNDOTE (I WILL STILL LOVE YOU) from one of her Spanish Albums in dedication to the victim’s families. By this time, the international community was becoming acquainted with her, giving her singing opportunities in places as far away as even Athens. Her last Madrid performance was at the Crystal Palace at a Gala with the some of the highest ranking politicians of Madrid present, as well as the U.S. Ambassador.
LIFE LEADS BACK TO MONTANA and “DANCING IN THE WIND”
Can you imagine the difficult adjustment Lori and her family had to make when they realized they had to stay in the states for the time being. Lori´s husband Tom was diagnosed with cancer, their children needed to be in the states, and Lori needed to have a home that would not change every couple of years. Depression set in and Lori lost the spirit of adventure she once had. Tom and Lori were faced with having to make a living, start new careers and now life became one of trying to survive and keep the bills paid! One great encouragement to her was when she was able to give concerts in Mexico and find that her music was greatly received in this new corner of the world!
As Lori rubbed shoulders with people in her new life in the U. S., she began to see how many were dealing with what seems to be increasing stresses in life. It was from this concern and Lori’s own struggles that lead Lori back to an intense time of song-writing and personal renewal. We now have her gift to us, DANCE IN THE WIND, a musical masterpiece dedicated to encourage YOU to “keep on dancing,” in all the seasons of your life! Now, come along with her, let her music inspire you but it can’t if you don’t listen to it!
