My parents were both musical. My dad played upright bass and my mom sang and acted in Community Theater. My brother is a drummer and would hold rehearsals in our basement when I was a kid. He showed me how to play the guitar and I was hooked. The theater bug bit me too, I started writing plays as a child, casting and directing my playmates in our garage that I turned into a theater for the day. No matter what the play, the big finale was always me belting out Moon River. Ah, those were the days. I have been performing all my life. Singing is what I like to do best, although, I have been having a love affair with the guitar since the age of twelve. I tried to get my sister to sing with me early on, but she passionately declined. I’m still working on her.

In 1991, I met Sarah Goslee Reed in Marietta, Ohio. We both heard each other perform at the same festival at the Hotel Lafayette and had a chance to get to know each other over lunch and a glass of wine. That glass of wine was the start of a long tradition for the two of us. We joined forces as Prairie Orchid and have performed for children and adults, in schools and libraries, in concert halls and festivals, and have recorded nine albums between the two of us and still we aren’t finished writing, performing or recording. We are songwriters, mothers, traveling companions, confidantes and friends. I think we should toast to that!

“A friend is someone who knows the song of your soul and sings it back to you when you've forgotten the words.” Crosby, Stills & Nash

In 1999, I released my first solo album “Music Box” it is getting National and International airplay. Eighteen original tunes and two covers.

In 2003, I picked up the bass guitar and was the founding Goddess-mother of the bluesy folk-rock trio Tre Lunas with Laurie Traveline and Bonnie Allyn. Three talented songwriters, three distinct voices, one great show! We recorded all of our performances and they are now bootlegs. So, you have to find a “Luna” to hear our music.

In this musical journey, I’ve done voice over work and jingles for big corporations, performed at political functions for State and National officials and crooned in the homes of the rich and famous. Sang demos for Platinum award winning songwriters and recorded with Grammy award winning film producers. Fronted a fabulous dance-party-wedding band. Directed musical theater and written plays for children. Had lead roles in musical productions and appeared on radio and television. It’s been quite a journey.

In 2006, I released my fifth album, "Chasing Away The Blues" which was produced with Grammy Nominated Celeste Friedman. The album has received some National attention and is being played around the world.

There have been some quotes along the way.

“The first thing you notice is the strong supple voice.” Jim Phillips, The Athens News

"If I was a singer, I'd want to sing like that." Bonnie Stephenson

“ Lisa is an artist of depth and experience . . . a cool voice!” Dirty Linen

“A soulful bluesy voice that reminds me of a young Bonnie Raitt, with songs to match." Taxi Reviewer #16

“A voice like vintage wine, it gets better all the time.” Anonymous
