Linda Kay Burk Biography:

Music and singing have amazing healing energy, especially when working through grief and depression, or simply just to feel better about life.

Linda Kay Burk is a singer and songwriter in the midst of a lifelong quest to bring healing and hope to children, adults and families.

She brings personal experience to her art. As a youth growing up in the Oregon countryside, her appreciation for music grew along with a love for nature. Then at age 14 a life-changing event: her father died.

To find comfort after her loss Linda immersed herself in singing and performing, playing Dorothy in the “Wizard Of Oz” and Liesl in “The Sound Of Music.” The die was cast: she had a dream to sing and perform and help others heal.

It was a dream augmented by college, marriage, giving birth to three children, and then adopting three infants in Mexico with her husband. She volunteered in her children’s schools as a music docent, sharing her love for music and song with children and teens. “I have always had a love for young people,” she says. “Assisting in programs for children and teens is one of my favorite activities.” Linda served on the board of C.H.A.D.D. (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), and was recently a director and instructor with Teens Matter in Auburn, California.

Her gentle, soothing and affirming music and lyrics come from a place deep within her wrought by hard work and life’s experiences. “I have worked hard for many years to achieve healing, peace and happiness in my own life,” she says. “My songs have emerged from that healing journey. Everything I am I owe to the experiences of my life.”

The power in her songs has been acknowledged by a wide range of people and professionals. “There is a silent voice in all of us that yearns to be heard and healed,” says Cynthia Schutt, an early childhood and elementary education teacher. “Linda's songs speak to that voice on a deep, healing level… her music is joyful, gleeful and a pure, calming pleasure. I would recommend her work for everyone…”

Linda, whom friends refer to as “Singing Bird,” says that her songs brought her comfort and she now wants to share the healing, comfort and joy of music with children and families. Her first CD With Wings of a Butterfly was released in the fall of 2006. Her latest CD, Linda Kay Burk: Singing the Songs of My Heart, was released in the spring of 2008.

A lyric in one of Linda’s new songs, Live in the Moment. Now! summarizes both her joy in making the music and the spirit she tries to convey to the listener: “Mother come join us/Come take time to play/We want to share our joy."

Linda hopes her journey will inspire other women. “A few years ago I thought it was too late to live my dreams,” she says. “I am learning that it is truly never too late.”
