It's a pretty amazing place where I find myself now, at the age of thirty, with a beautiful wife who astounds me more each day and a two year old little buddy who is my everyday joy. This place I find myself in is filled with a new vision and a renewed heart for leading God's people into authentic times of corporate, Spirit-led worship. The journey to this new place has not been easy, but it has certainly been worthwhile.

For a while, it seemed as though "worshiping" had become the object of worship in the Christian culture. Every event that I was a part of, every church that I was invited to, seemed to be a comparison to, or filtered through what was going on in the worship "scene." There seemed to be a war between the traditions of old, and the new paradigms of church. My desire was to be faithful to God and what He had called and created me to be. But I have to tell you, some days it was really hard to keep traveling and leading worship when what I saw wasn't a response to what God is doing in our lives, but a response to a "worship trend."

In 2002, I surrendered my itinerant ministry to work in the local church. In this time at Crossroads Baptist Church in The Woodlands, TX, God refined my heart and truly renewed my spirit. God also revived me with a fresh awareness of His presence and the freedom to recognize that the battles of style and presentation are all battles of flesh. I cannot begin to tell you how revolutionary, yes revolutionary, this was for me.

So, here I am, looking back on eleven years, nine worship recordings, over 40 written worship songs, thousands of miles traveled, and some amazing ministry partnerships. I am new because of what God has done. I'm resting in where God has me and who He is. And I can't help but smile knowing that there is still more to come. God's Spirit has awakened in me a new burden and a new passion to authentically lead His people to truly worship Him. In that, there is a new freedom, a new approach, and a new ministry being birthed in my heart.

My joy and my privilege is to share this new ministry with you through our music.

About The Beautiful Gathering:

"The Beautiful Gathering" is an invitation for you to be a part of a spiritual awakening that swept into 220 Student Leadership Week during this live recording in west Texas last year. It speaks of the greatness and majesty of God while capturing the movement of God's Spirit in the lives of His people. The music on this recording is new and fresh - you won't want to miss out. For those who liked "Fidelis," (John's last live CD), you will absolutely love "The Beautiful Gathering." Already a favorite, "The Beautiful Gathering" is said to be the John Sherrill Band's best work yet.
