Songwriter, guitarist and singer Donné Roberts’ finger picking guitar playing, with its fluid melodic lines and grooves, places him in one of the front ranks of Afro Canadian musicians. Donné was nominated in the 2005 Canadian Urban Music Awards "Global Rhythms" category and Artist of the month of July 2006 at the Afrocanadian.com.

Donné is a well-known figure in Russian show business. In 1997 he produced Mama Africa, one of the largest and most unique African festivals ever to grace Russian culture. In 1998 Donné became the first black person in history to host a one-hour show on MTV Russia, called Mambassa. That same year, he was chosen to organize a group of back up vocalists for the Swedish pop band Ace of Bass.

In 1999, he began establishing a reputation in Toronto’s thriving world-music community. In 2003, he was invited to be part of African Guitar Summit, the groundbreaking collaboration of Canada’s finest African-born musicians conceived by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. African Guitar Summit would go on to win the 2005 Juno Award, Canada’s highest distinction, for Best World Music Album; and the band received the honour of performing at the Live 8 concert.

His first solo album, Rhythm Was Born is testament to those possibilities, a 10-song journey of songs inspired from his homeland that frequently venture into North American and European rock, funk & blues territory. Roberts’ original music and live performances continue to evolve more in this cosmopolitan groove direction. His band has performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Dawson City Music Festival, Harbourfront Centre, and Dundas Square Toronto
