Chango Man is a collaboration of some of Houston’s finest musicians. Led by El Fausto (Tino) Jackson, the music of Chango Man has many parts and many components. One of the interesting parts of the project is the participation of Passion D’ Luna, Houston’s exemplary cumbia rockers. While there may be a rotating core of musicians depending on schedules, the core is shaping out like this:

Ismael was the front man for Spanish rockers Toxico. Merino has a CD coming out soon under the same name where he plays all the instruments. Bruce, Billy, Darryl and Greg all play for the best disco band in Texas, Disco Expressions. Bruce also plays drums for Beetle, a Beatles cover band. Fausto and Moises played in Rock En Español psychopunkers Chango Jackson, and Fausto also plays in Beetle and Disco Expressions.

For the past year and half, Fausto has been experimenting with Latin beats, particularly the cumbia. Having played in his dad’s very successful cumbia group El Super Estrella last year and taking several trips to Mexico, he was bit by the cumbia bug. He decided to record some songs he had burning in his head and asked his friends Passion D’ Luna to play on the recording. With the help of Paul Beebe (Beetle, Disco Expressions, Thunderado, The Small Sounds) on the production end of things, he finished the EP, The Devils Cumbia and Other Tales (La Cumbia De El Diablo y Otros Cuentos).

The next logical (illogical?) step was Chango Man.
